About Harpistina
Ina Yoon is a Korean–New Zealand harpist based in Auckland whose musical life began at the piano at age five in South Korea. After immigrating to New Zealand, she discovered the harp at fifteen — and never looked back. A graduate of the University of Auckland with a Graduate Diploma in Classical Performance (Harp), she has been classically trained by renowned harpists across New Zealand and internationally, including Ann Yeung of the University of Illinois.
Ina's artistry has been recognised both at home and on the international stage: she was awarded Second Prize at the International New York Music Competition, was an invited participant at the 4th International Harp Festival in Seoul, Korea (2018) — a homecoming that united her Korean roots with her life as a harpist — and was named an Ockham Collective Resident Artist in 2021.
An accomplished orchestral musician, Ina has performed with many of Auckland's leading ensembles, appearing as principal harpist with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra, and performing with the Blackbird Ensemble, St Matthew's Chamber Orchestra, and Manukau Symphony Orchestra. Orchestral repertoire remains her deepest musical love, while her full-size grand pedal harp is equally at home lending its atmosphere to weddings, corporate events, and private functions across Auckland.
At the heart of everything Ina does is a single passion: sharing the harp with as many people as possible. Alongside her performing life, she teaches from her studios in Remuera (near Newmarket) and Botany (East Auckland) as director of Harpitree Music School, and reaches students worldwide through Harpitree Academy, her online learning platform. She also composes and arranges harp music for educational purposes, creating repertoire that meets students where they are.
In 2017, Ina founded Harpitree NZ, now New Zealand's major harp distributor and official dealer representing the world's most renowned makers — Lyon & Healy, Salvi, Camac, Mikel, Harpitree Harp, and related brands — completing an ecosystem where a student's very first lesson and a professional's concert instrument come from the same trusted hands.
Ina's teaching schedule is usually full — join the waiting list, or begin your harp journey online today at Harpitree Academy.
